The Kingdom of Lesotho

March 2005 - Horse trek into Africa's highlands

Lesotho is that tiny country completely surrounded by South Africa. The white owner of the Malealea Lodge said that only six white people remain who were born here. The rest left with the British colonial period in 1966. Lesotho is the only country in the world to sit entirely above 1000 meters, a kingdom in the sky. We went horse trekking in the unspoiled highlands, where we stayed in huts with the Basotho people, worth the uncomfortable bus rides to get there! That's public transportation in Africa. We're not here for comfort. We can get that at home. We're here to see the world and her people. Ahhh... Lesotho. Great!
